Medals are ordered in larger quantities than trophies because they are usually given to everyone in a category rather than only to winners — every finisher in a run, every participant in a sports day.

That changes the economics. Unit cost and delivery timing matter more here than in any other award category, and the design decisions are made once and applied across hundreds of identical pieces.

What should be customised on a medal?

The centre and the ribbon. Most medals use a standard metal blank with a custom centre insert — printed or engraved with the event name, logo and placing — which keeps the cost down while making the medal specific to your event.

The ribbon is the part people underestimate. A printed ribbon carrying the event name costs very little more than a plain one and is visible in every photograph taken that day, which is where most of a medal's afterlife happens.

Why order this from us

Economical at participant quantities

Standard blanks with custom centres keep the unit cost low across hundreds of pieces.

Printed ribbons appear in every photo

A branded ribbon costs very little and is the most-photographed part of the medal.

Custom centres on standard blanks avoid the mould lead time entirely.

Bagged and sorted for the day

Packed by category or placing so handover at the event is fast.

Typical use cases

What people order this for

  • A marathon giving every finisher a medal with a printed ribbon
  • A school sports day awarding medals across age groups and events
  • A tournament awarding gold, silver and bronze per category
  • A sports academy recognising every participant at a term-end event
  • A corporate sports day with team and individual medals

How this is priced

Medal pricing depends on material, size, finish and quantity. Standard blanks with custom centres are the economical route; fully custom die-struck medals carry a one-time mould cost that only makes sense at high volume or for a recurring annual event.

Ordering in bulk? Order to participant numbers with a surplus, and sort by category before the event. A handful of spare medals costs very little and saves a real problem when registrations exceed expectations on the day.

FAQ

Medals: common questions

Still have questions?

Send us your requirement any time. We reply with options and pricing, not a sales script.

In acrylic, yes, at no tooling cost. In metal, a custom shape needs a die or mould, which is a one-time charge — worthwhile for a large or annually recurring event, less so for a one-off.

Almost always. The ribbon is what appears around a participant's neck in every photograph, and printing it costs far less than most people assume.

A comfortable surplus over expected participants. Registrations on the day are unpredictable, and running short at a prize distribution is a far bigger problem than a few unused medals.

Standard blanks with custom centres are relatively quick. Fully custom moulded medals take considerably longer, so tell us your event date at the enquiry stage.
